Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) Program Update – 2009 PQRI Incentive Payment Distribution

Eligible professionals (EPs) who participated in the 2009 Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) and are incentive eligible can expect 2009 PQRI incentive payments to be distributed this fall (2010).
Remember that PQRI incentives earned by individual participating physicians and other EPs are paid as a lump-sum to the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) under which the EP’s claims were submitted.

Charging Medicaid Clients for Missed Scheduled Appointments / Workers Comp Decertify Physicians

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) prohibits providers from billing Medicaid clients who miss scheduled appointments. This policy is premised on the fact that a missed appointment is not a distinct reimbursable Medicaid service, but a part of the provider’s overall costs of doing business.

With the ever changing climate of healthcare, United Medical LLC thrives to keep updated on the latest and most accurate news. Led by United Medical CEO and President, Kemal Erkan, in a mission to promote awareness and raise questions on the hottest topic of healthcare reform, Erkan facilitated an event involving local lawmakers and physicians. Side by side, Kemal Erkan and Senate Candidate-Chris Coons led discussions comprising over fifteen United Medical clients on June 15th. These physician clients expressed their opinions on key thoughts involving Medicare cuts, SGR calculations in addition to other health care topics that were thought to need lawmakers’ attention. In a goal is to improve health care in our society, United Medical allows itself to be an optimistically influential company, doing its part to have voice heard and to make a difference.

On June 25, 2010, President Obama signed into law the “Preservation of Access to Care for Medicare Beneficiaries and Pension Relief Act of 2010.” This law establishes a 2.2 percent update to the TriCare and Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) payment rates retroactive from June 1 through November 30, 2010.

FTC Delays Red Flags Rule to December 31

The Federal Trade Commission announced May 28, 2010, that at the request of several members of Congress, it is delaying enforcement of the Red Flags Rule through December 31, 2010, while Congress considers legislation that would affect the scope of entities covered by the rule. Senate votes to Again Delay Medicare Cut

The Senate voted Wednesday (March 10, 2010) to delay the 2010 cut in Medicare physician reimbursement. E-Prescribe

Aprescriber's ability to electronically send an accurate, error-free and understandable prescription directly to a pharmacy from the point-of-care - is an important element in improving the quality of patient care. The inclusion of electronic prescribing in the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) of 2003 gave momentum to the movement, and the July 2006 Institute of Medicine report on the role of e-prescribing in reducing medication errors has received widespread publicity, helping to build awareness of e-prescribing's role in enhancing patient safety. Developing the standards that will facilitate e-prescribing is one of the key action items in the governments plan to expedite the adoption of electronic medical records and build a national electronic health information infrastructure in the United States.
Stimulus Package

Is an economic stimulus package enacted by the 111th United States Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama on February 17, 2009. The Act of Congress was based largely on proposals made by President Obama and is intended to provide a stimulus to the U.S. economy in the wake of the economic downturn. The measures are nominally worth $787 billion. The Act includes federal tax cuts, expansion of unemployment benefits and other social welfare provisions, and domestic spending in education, health care, and infrastructure, including the energy sector. The Act also includes numerous non-economic recovery related items that were either part of longer-term plans (e.g. a study of the effectiveness of medical treatments) or desired by Congress (e.g. a limitation on executive compensation in federally aided banks added by Senator Dodd and Rep. Frank). The government action is much larger than the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, which consisted primarily of tax rebate checks.
